In a recent statement, Grammy Award winner Temilade Openiyi—better known by his stage name Tems—confirmed to the public that he is a major fan of Tyla and Asake.
In an interview that was filmed and posted online, Tems, the singer of “Try Me,” was asked to list her current favorite African musicians.
Tems responded by saying that her current favorite African artists are Nigerian singer Asake and South African singer Tyla.
This video surfaced online a few hours after rapper Odumodublvck caused some controversy by listing his top 5 Nigerian artists based on their recent activity, excluding Wizkid.
Asake has undoubtedly established himself as a successful musician in less than two years, having released two successful albums. He recently closed the 20,000-seat 02 Arena in London, United Kingdom.
Additionally, Tyla is a singer-songwriter from South Africa whose real name is Tyla Laura Seethal. She was born on January 30, 2002. Grown up in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Tyla became well-known worldwide with her 2023 single “Water,” which became the first South African soloist to have a song enter the US Billboard Hot 100 in 55 years and a top ten hit in the UK.
