Nigerians are currently attacking the Recording Academy on social media sites, which manages the Grammy Awards.
Three new categories—Best African Music Performance, Best Pop Dance Recording, and Best Alternative Jazz Album—have been added to the Grammy Awards’ 2024 ceremony.
Wizkid, the Nigerian afrobeat sensation, and Rema, a Mavin signee, appeared on a list of “up-and-coming black artists everyone should have on their radar” that was recently published by the Academy.
Some Nigerians found this offensive, especially Wizkid’s supporters who saw it as disrespectful given the singer’s position as one of the continent’s most popular musicians. They used social media to make fun of the organizers for publishing such absurd content.
