Blackface, a Nigerian singer and former member of Plantashun Boiz, has accused Asake, a younger musician colleague, of stealing his song.
The singer of “Ghetto Child” recently claimed in an interview with Naija FM that Asake sampled his song “Ikebe Supa” for his hit song “Joha.”
Younger artists, he said, look to him as a huge source of inspiration, but they should exercise due diligence by getting in touch with him first before sampling his song.
He claims that he locks himself in his room to find inspiration for his music, so it bothers him when someone steals his concept.
Blackface, who once criticized 2face Idibia, also claimed that Burna Boy and Wizkid had used parts of his song “Twist & Turn” in their joint song, “Ginger.”
He stated that while he is not opposed to them using a sample of his work in their musical endeavor, they should obtain permission and give proper credit.
“Young ones dey get inspiration from my music. The first person wey sample my music na Wizkid when he do ‘Baby girl I like the way you whine it.’ When I release these records, dem go find the one wey dem like and dem go turn am to their own,”
