Renowned Nigerian singer David Adeleke, better known as Davido, was thrilled to be nominated for the National Award.
Davido is one of the entertainment personalities nominated for National Awards, along with Victor Osimhen and Kunle Afolayan.
The Department of Special Missions and Intergovernmental Affairs announced the awards to various executives.
Davido was awarded the title of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
The entertainer has gained tremendous influence in the Nigerian music industry and contributed to the global recognition of Nigeria’s signature genre. Afolayan, an outstanding filmmaker whose work is considered a pioneer of the new Nollywood, was also honored by OON.
In March 2021, US streamer Netflix signed a three-film deal with Afolayan, a positive trailblazer for other players in the burgeoning Nigerian film industry.
Another notable entertainment figure is OON-achieving filmmaker Charles Okpareke.
Victor Osimhen, the Nigerian footballer who led Napoli to their first Serie A title in 33 years, has been awarded the MFR (Order of the Federal Republic).
Terry Waya, a businessman and father of reality TV star Kidwaya, was also awarded an OFR Unit (Order of the Federal Republic). All awardees were asked to send a copy of their application or resume to the Department by May 31st.
They are also expected to be in person when they receive their medals and diplomas on June 1, 2023.
