Nasarawa women protest naked against outcome of governorship election
Nasarawa state women have taken to the streets to protest the outcome of the just concluded governorship elections held on March 11, 2023.
The elections result which was announced by Ishaya Tanko, the Independent National Electoral Commission collation and returning officer for Nasarawa state gave Abdullahi Sule of the All progressive congress (APC) the victory. APC polled a total of 347,209 votes while their closest rival – David Ombugadu of the People’s Democratic Party polled 283,016 votes.
Having satisfied all requirements of the law, Ishaya Tanko declared Abdullahi Sule the winner of the elections at the state collation center in Lafia the state capital.
This however has not sit well with the indigenes of the state as they have taken to the streets to protest the results claiming the election was rigged. Although these claims are not new, atleast as far as the 2023 general elections in Nigeria are concerned. There have been numerous irregularities noted in the democratic exercise and extreme cases of violence in many other parts of the country. But Nasarawa indigenes have decided to take their greviances to another level.

On 25th March, 2023 a viral video surfaced online showing indigeneous women and mothers of Nasarawa state protesting shirtless against the results of the governorship elections as announced by INEC. They accused governor Sule of forcing himself on the people and succeeding to rig himself into power, stressing that he was not the people’s choice – they didn’t vote for him.
As seen in the video, the women who mostly were in their underwears rained curses on all those who had a hand in the rigging process as claimed.
“I came here stark naked the way I came into this world to fight for my emancipation.
“Should there be my own compatriots who colluded with them to steal our mandate, I stand here today to curse and declare that may the ground open up and swallow them all.” One of the angry protesters said.
